We denounce in the strongest terms the plan of the Council of the European Union to launch a Joint Police Operation that will be called “mos maiorum” in the EU countries, from October 13-26. 2014.
The 10-day joint police operation which was mandated last 10 July 2014 in Brussels, has used as alibi its intention to disrupt organized crime involved in human trafficking, but is in reality targetting undocumented migrants whom the EU has already unjustly and cruelly labelled as criminals.
The planned police operation against undocumented migrants in the EU is a violation of the European Convention on Human Rights and the Protection of Fundamental Freedoms and the UN Declaration on Human Rights, specifically the right to liberty and security of individual persons.
Its substance is fascist and racist – it is a dangerous step of turning the EU states into one big police garrison with the later given the absolute powers to search, question, secure personal details, arrest, detain and deport persons; and without doubt, colored peoples would fully bear the brunt of this racist police action.
There are already a bountiful of laws on how to deal with criminal syndicates such as those involved in human trafficking, that makes this “mos maiorum” absolutely unnecessary, obviously discriminatory and puts into question not only police efficiency vis-a-vis crimes, but also the whole framework of who's peace and security are served with this police action.
We call on all concerned citizens, individuals, organizations and institutions to join hands in denouncing this measure and for calling for an immediate stop to this dangerous police action against migrants. We call on progressive politicians and political parties to throw their weight on this urgent issue. We call human rights groups, migrant advocates, anti-racist and anti-fascist organizations to denounce and oppose this “mos maiorum”!
